Do you write big band music?
Are you interested in taking risks to go beyond?
Are you interested in connecting with other like-minded composers?

We are always looking forward to meeting new composers who aspire to go farther.
Our online workshop allows us to connect composers wherever you are in the world.

We have regular online meetings where participants will discuss their work with fellow participants and guest clinicians.
Our guest clinicians who are some of the most up-and-coming to award-winning veteran composers will also talk about their compositional process, techniques, philosophy, etc.

We have monthly reading sessions where you can hear if the risks you take accomplish your musical goals or lead you in other directions. If you are not based in the Twin Cities area, we’ll play your chart, live stream it, and you’ll get a recording after the fact. Reading sessions are generally open to the public.

We’ll have an annual the-end-of-year concert in which we will present some of the best of the participants’ works from the season. At the concert, we will award the composer of the “best composition” with a commission to premiere a new work for the following season with the JazzMN Orchestra, considered one of Minnesota’s top big bands.

By the way, there’s no tuition fee.

Check out our Guidelines, and tell us a little bit about yourself using the form below if you are interested in joining us!

Looking forward to hearing from you!
